After imploring the singer last year to not make it a “cruel summer” and come to Canada, Justin Trudeau commended Taylor Swift for her “good choice wrapping the Eras Tour” in this country.

Before the 34-year-old megastar took the stage at the Rogers Centre, Toronto, Trudeau wrote on X Thursday, “We’re ready for you, @taylorswift13. Good choice wrapping the Eras Tour in Canada.”

“Has this always been your endgame?” the 52-year-old prime minister added.

By Friday morning, the social media post, garnered over two million views and a gamut of reactions from X users.

“God this is so cringe lmao,” wrote X user @goodbyefriend. User @Calibremag agreed: “This is so cringe.” Alongside a GIF, user @amuse wrote: “Cringe Level 11.”

Meanwhile, X user @ArabiaSteve wrote, “I thought it was the parody post at first. Nope. It’s our actual PM. How embarrassing.” Another user @ari_jit_roy wrote, “I knew it, You are a Swiftie.”

Trudeau’s congratulatory post on Thursday comes after the PM’s request on X last year.

Back in July 2023, Swift announced more European dates, but nothing in Canada. That prompted Trudeau to initiate a campaign on X urging the singer to include Canada in her tour.

His message to her contained puns based on some of her song titles. “It’s me, hi. I know places in Canada would love to have you. So, don’t make it another cruel summer. We hope to see you soon.”

“Oh Toronto, we are so back,” Swift shouted to the packed Roger Centre during the first of six concerts at the venue on Thursday night. Applause rose from tens of thousands of fans as her blue and gold bodysuit shimmered in the stage lights, reports USA Today.

Swift collected six Grammy nominations, earlier this month, expressing appreciation to fans who have supported her over her 18-year career, reports Rolling Stone.

“I really want to spend those nine shows with the most generous, encouraging, welcoming, passionate, excitable fans, so we came to see you in Toronto,” she said.

Some Swifties waited hours in merchandise lines to buy a $95 blue crewneck sweater or $110 beige hoodie, reports USA Today. Other fans bought snacks like “Bejeweled pretzels”, “Lavender Haze cocktails” and “Hi, I’m the popcorn, It’s me.”

Toronto embraced Swift warmly. Police horses had friendship bracelets draped around their necks. And a 140-foot inflatable bracelet — made by artist Shawn Kolodny in New Orleans — was sent from Indianapolis’s Lucas Oil Stadium to Toronto’s Rogers Centre.

In the ultimate friendship exchange, the enormous bracelet is expected to depart after her Toronto stint for BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, where she is scheduled to conclude the Eras Tour.
