Oxfordshire turns white with snow as update given on roads
The county braced itself after receiving yellow and amber weather warnings from the Met Office for 12pm on Saturday, January 4 onwards.
Places in the north and west of the county such as Bicester, Banbury and Chipping Norton were all set to be affected the most by heavy snow and freezing rain.
The snow began to fall at around 10pm on Saturday night and continued throughout the night leaving a blanket of white over Oxfordshire’s towns and villages as well as Oxford itself.

Gritting was pre-emptively started yesterday and has continued into today as the roads are made safe for drivers in the county.
A spokesperson for Oxfordshire County Council on Sunday said: “Snow and sleet arrived in Oxfordshire late on Saturday.
“Oxfordshire County Council’s gritting crews had spent the day treating the county’s roads.
“Gritters cover all A-roads, B-roads and some C-roads. National Highways is responsible for gritting the M40, A34 and A43.
“When conditions demand the gritting fleet can be fitted with snowploughs to help clear a path through snowfall on Oxfordshire roads.”

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “We’re out around the clock combating snow, freezing rain and ice this weekend.
“Please help us to help you, by giving our gritters and snow blowers time and space to do their job.”
Temperatures are expected to warm throughout today (Sunday, January 5) according to the Met Office.
