A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder after the death of a two-year-old boy in Tamworth in northern NSW last month.

Police said the toddler was found unconscious at a home in Hillvue Road in South Tamworth on January 18.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the child at the home before taking him to Tamworth Base Hospital, where he later died.

Detectives from the homicide squad and the Oxley police district launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death and established Strike Force Agriel.

About 6.45pm on Friday, police arrested a 23-year-old man at a home in Gunnedah and took him to Tamworth police station. The man was charged with murder (domestic violence) and was refused bail overnight and appeared before Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
