Alberta’s leader, Danielle Smith, threatens secession, as separatists from Quebec do, if their provincial wants are not met. Prime Minister Mark Carney has countrywide responsibility to protect the rights of Indigenous peoples. These Canadians, suffering from generational discriminations, work to protect the environment. Separationist groups will create enormous horrid damages for self-entitled wealth. Education regarding consequences of destructive actions is needed in schools.

PATRICK MASON

(Separation would certainly be much messier than most are anticipating)

Be skeptical

Please tell Jason Kenney to wake up and smell the roses. Mark Carney’s whole life is being a climate activist. He already said he will not end Bill C-69 or the emissions cap. There is no chance he will advance oil and gas interests.

Wrong tone

I really wish Premier Smith would tone down her indignation, her adversarial approach when it comes to the federal government. It adds no value, just contributes to divisiveness and alienation. We had a free and fair election, now let’s move forward with a can-do attitude. Let’s face it, having Stephen Harper as prime minister for a decade wasn’t a game-changer for Alberta. Sure, Trudeau fumbled trying to balance environmental concerns with economic growth in the oil and gas sector. However, his government did bail out the Trans Mountain pipeline, increasing the GDP for both the country and Alberta.

Two nations, two choices

There have been two democratic elections in the past six months, one in the U.S. and one in Canada. The voters in one country made a smart decision, the other not so much. The end result is that one country is on the path to being great again and the other one has a group of separatist people who don’t want to be citizens of that country determining how great it can be. Democracy can be a great thing when people think things through — not so much when they don’t.

DAVIS HULL

(The concern with the Carney government is all of the issues that put Canada on a ruinous economic path with the Liberals for the past decade are going to carry on)
