Futuristic sport drone soccer likened to ‘robotic Quidditch’

Schoolchildren have taken part in the UK’s first ever Drone Soccer tournament.

The sport, which originated in South Korea, involves flying drones encased in protective ball-shaped cages towards goals suspended in the air.

The futuristic tournament, which combines football and drones, was played at Wigston Academy in Leicestershire on Wednesday.

Oscar, 12, said: “It’s not easy. I was there for like three minutes and got like three goals.

“There’s nothing like this and it’s really fun.”

The event was hosted by Drone Sports Ltd, which said it was the first event of its kind in the UK.
