Photos captured by witnesses in nearby high-rises appeared to show flames centred on the large “H” sign on the exterior of the landmark building, on Orchid Avenue.
Seven News reported that onlookers said they saw a “fiery explosion” near the top of one of the towers about 2am.

Several crews were sent by the Queensland Fire Department, with the fire extinguished within the hour.
After a chilly few hours spent down on Orchid Avenue, guests were reportedly allowed back into the Hilton as the sky lightened, about 5.30am.
The fire comes days after news that another longstanding hotel in the chain, Hilton Brisbane, is set to close this month.
A “globally recognised” luxury hotel operator is set to take over the building in Elizabeth Street in the CBD.
